Choosing a music teacher means inviting someone into your child's life every week. This guide covers what Wilmington parents usually ask before starting lessons.

What does in-home mean?

Your teacher comes to your home at the same time each week and teaches a private, one-on-one lesson. There is no commute, no waiting room, and no rotating teachers.

Which instruments can my child learn?

What is the best age to start?

Many children can start piano or violin around four or five. Voice usually works best around eight. Teens and adults can start any time and still make excellent progress.

How much practice is needed?

Beginners do well with ten to fifteen focused minutes several times a week. Short, regular practice beats one long session before the next lesson.

How do you choose your teachers?

Every teacher is EvergreenCertified. That means background-checked, trained in abuse prevention, and personally vetted before they teach in any family's home.

Where we teach and more guides for parents

Our teachers travel to homes across the greater Wilmington area. Each town has its own page with local detail:

Still deciding? Read our guides to the best first instrument for kids and how to choose a piano teacher in Wilmington. Our comparison of in-home versus studio lessons helps too. Once lessons start, how to help your child practice covers the daily habit. Homeschool families can read music lessons for homeschool families, and families outside the area can read about online lessons.

Not sure which instrument fits your child? Piano and violin work from about age four or five, voice from about age eight, and guitar and drums a little later. Whichever page you start from, the next step is the same. Book a first month of four 45-minute lessons, and your teacher comes to your home at the same time each week.

How to get started

Private lessons are $320 for one month. That covers four 45-minute lessons with the same teacher in your home.

You can reserve your first month online in about two minutes. Book your first month of lessons here.
