Give Music Lessons as a Holiday Gift in Wilmington, NC
Updated: Sep 30
A first month of music lessons is a gift that lasts long after the wrapping paper is gone. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles across the Wilmington area ask us every December how to give lessons as a gift. The recipient is usually a child or an adult who has always wanted to play. Here is how it works and how to make the gift feel real on the day.
Why lessons make a better gift than a gadget
Most holiday gifts are forgotten by February. A month of private lessons gives a child a new skill and a weekly visit from a trusted teacher. It gives them a reason to sit down at the piano or pick up the guitar. For an adult, it is permission to finally start. Lessons happen in the recipient's home, so there is nothing for the family to drive to and nothing to set up.
How to give a first month of lessons
Decide on the instrument, or let the recipient choose after the holidays
Call or email us to arrange the first month as a gift and set a start date after the holidays
Or book the first month directly through our booking link and let us know it is a gift
Print a simple note to put under the tree that says lessons are coming
Let the recipient meet the teacher at the first lesson, in their own home
If you are not sure which instrument fits, our guide to the best first instrument for kids helps. Adults can read about adult piano or adult guitar lessons.
Pair the gift with an instrument
If the recipient does not own an instrument yet, a starter instrument makes a natural companion gift. A digital piano with 88 weighted keys works well. So does a three-quarter size acoustic guitar for a child or a rental violin in the right size. Our guides on keyboards versus pianos and violin sizing explain what to look for. Your teacher can also help choose before the first lesson.
Who the teacher will be
Every Evergreen Studios teacher completes the EvergreenCertified process. That includes a background check, abuse-prevention training, and personal vetting by our team. The same teacher comes every week. That matters when you are sending a gift into someone else's home.
We teach across Wilmington, Leland, Hampstead, and the beach towns, and online lessons are available for family who live farther away. If the gift is for a January start, our New Year music lessons guide has tips for turning it into a habit.
How to get started
Private music lessons are $320 for one month. That covers four 45-minute lessons with the same teacher in your home.
