Acoustic or electric

Most beginners start on an acoustic guitar because it needs no amplifier and builds finger strength quickly. A student who dreams of playing rock or blues can start on electric just as well. Our teachers play both and will recommend the right size and type for the student's age and hands. Beach humidity is hard on wooden instruments, so the teacher can also show you how to store a guitar safely.

The right age to start

Guitar works well from about age seven or eight, when a child's hands are big enough to form chords. Younger children who are eager to play sometimes start on a smaller three-quarter size guitar. Teens and adults are welcome. Many Wrightsville Beach students are middle and high schoolers who want to play songs with friends or lead worship at church. What guitar lessons cover

A typical first year of guitar includes:
